The signatories of the Memorandum are TSU Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze and Chairperson of the Association of Mediators Irakli Kandashvili. According to the Memorandum and the project, Tbilisi State University and the Georgian Association of Mediators, with the support of the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will facilitate peaceful, timely and cost-effective resolution of pandemic disputes between employers and employees.
In the process of cooperation, the parties will implement joint research and educational programs, where representatives of academic circles and practical mediators will be involved. They will provide institutionalization of mediation through theory and practice.
"Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, it is an innovation in the Georgian legal sphere, which allows the public to resolve the dispute on their own and by agreement. The role and importance of universities is huge in the introduction of mediation. We hope our cooperation will be effective and fruitful. It is noteworthy that, against the background of the pandemic, through our joint involvement and cooperation, we can offer the society an effective mechanism for resolving disputes arising in labor relations completely free of charge. This is a unique tool that the society will definitely use it", said Irakli Kandashvili.
