Mediators Association of Georgia conducted another ethics training course for mediators

Mediators Association of Georgia, with the support of the USAID Rule of Law Program, developed a mandatory training program on mediation ethics within the framework of continuing professional education of mediators, on the basis of which the next ethics training course was held.



Irakli Kandashvili, chairman of the Mediators Association of Georgia, and member of the executive board of the same association, mediator, TSU associate prof. Natia Chitashvili was in charge.

 



The chairman of the Mediators Association of Georgia, Irakli Kandashvili, the member of the executive board of the Mediators Association of Georgia, Natia Chitashvili and the USAID Rule of Law Program ADR advisor, Irakli Gelovani welcomed the participants.



Within the framework of the training course, the Georgian mediation practice was generalized in terms of the standards of professional behavior of mediators, the importance of ethics in the formation of mediation as a profession was discussed, the procedural content of the mediator's ethics standards was presented, and the strategies and recommendations for the management of ethical dilemmas by mediators were shared.

 



During the training, the participants also performed group work, discussed specific cases where problems and dilemmas of principles were raised, such as: promotion of good faith negotiation and informed agreement/self-determination, scope of promotion of voluntary agreement in mandatory court mediation,

 



The legal and ethical standard of the mediator's obligation to inform the parties, the mediator's obligation of independence/neutrality and impartiality, the application of the principle of confidentiality in the termination of the mandatory court mediation process, the promotion of the best interests of children, the obligation to ensure equality and others.



The continuing professional education course on mediation ethics is mandatory for all working mediators, which serves to strengthen the ethical sustainability and reliability of mediation, uniform establishment of professional conduct standards and conscientious implementation in court and private mediation.
