USAID Mission Director Peter Wiebler met with Irakli Kandashvili, Chairman of the Mediators Association of Georgia. The importance of developing alternative dispute resolution tools for Georgia was discussed at the meeting, which is a precondition for establishing social peace and ensuring even faster and more credible access to justice in Georgia. USAID Mission director positively assessed the successful stages of intensive institutional development since January 1, 2020, which the Association has passed at a rapid pace, and outlined concrete plans for further strategic cooperation. With the support of USAID, mediation process halls have been set up on the basis of the Mediators Association, a mandatory program of continuing professional development of mediators has been introduced, professional ethics standards are being institutionalised, and an annual international forum for business representatives is planned. Irakli Kandashvili briefed the Mission Director on the ongoing successful reforms in the field and the current challenges, and thanked USAID for sustainable, fruitful and close cooperation.
